As the weather changes from cold to less cold, and then from warmish to ridiculously, stupid hot, finding the motivation to work out can feel trés difficult. I mean, staying motivated to work out in winter is hard enough, but that transitional period can be even more discombobulating. In winter, it sometimes feels like our bodies want to naturally hibernate like a bear in a cave the entire season long. So, when the warmth begins to come back and our limbs start thawing out, you would think we'd be ready to jump right back out there, lifting bigger weights and beating those PRs under the warm sun.
Nope.
Just as the winter, frigid months make taking the time to work out hard, the spring and summer months have their share of reasons that make finding the motivation to stay fit not so easy. So, while the heat slowly approaches (or quickly, depending on your geography), it's time to push those worries aside and just get at it. There is never a better time to get fit than the present. If you don't know how to find the inspo you need to work out, don't worry - I've got you covered! In this blog post, I'll be sharing with you some tips on how to stay motivated to work out during the warmer months of the year.
Set a Goal and Plan Your Workouts
The first step to staying motivated to work out during the summer months is to set a specific goal. Whether it's to lose weight, increase endurance, or improve overall health, having a clear goal in mind can help you stay focused and motivated. Once you have a goal in mind, it's important to plan your workouts accordingly. This means setting a regular workout schedule and sticking to it. You can also mix it up by trying new workouts and incorporating outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, or cycling.
Find a Workout Buddy
Working out with a friend or family member can make your workouts more fun and enjoyable. Not only does it provide accountability, but it can also help you push each other to achieve your fitness goals. Plus, it's a great way to spend time together while getting some exercise. So, find a workout buddy and start sweating together!
Stay Cool and Hydrated
Spring may not be so bad depending on where you are located, but some summers can be really intense in the heat department. When this happens, it's important to take precautions to avoid heat exhaustion and dehydration during workouts. Make sure to wear breathable clothing, stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest parts of the day, and drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workouts. You can also try working out in a pool or near a body of water to help you stay cool.
Wear the Right Gear
Sometimes it's a combination of bad gear and hot weather that really make working out in summer, a real bummer. That's why wearing the right attire and proper gear while you exercise can make a huge difference in your overall fitness experience. Start by wearing lightweight, moisture-wicking clothes to help prevent overheating and keep your body dry and cool. Lifting The Dream is a great place to shop for gear that will keep you in the shape you want at the temperature you need. From lifting belts to workout apparel, you'll find everything you need to get sweaty without going into heat exhaustion.
Staying motivated to work out during the hot months can be challenging, but with the right mindset and strategies, it's definitely possible. Remember to set a goal, plan your workouts, find a workout buddy, stay cool and hydrated, and wear the proper attire. By implementing these tips, you can stay on track with your fitness routine and enjoy all the amazing benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Happy sweating!
